to DI for

I first started going to D.I. (that's Deseret Industries, a super-Goodwill for you east coast readers) when Jason and I were dating. It was one of our favorite cheap dates. One night we went and picked out "fancy" outfits for each other, then got all dressed up and went out on the town to Golden Corral (which was actually a lot more expensive than we had thought it would be, so it wasn't really a cheap date). When we got engaged, we went to D.I. all the time to find things to "decorate" our new apartment. Most of those decorations (like a giant yellow metal spoon, and a velvet poster of a cat) are long gone but some of them are still around. In fact, some of my favorite things come from D.I.
1. the giant glass tumbler filled with lemons on my kitchen windowsill (just the tumbler, not the lemons) brightens up my dishes-washing.
2. Buddha has been in our family for many years now. Look how happy he is! How could you not smile when you see that little guy every day?
3. vintage BYU... stein? Is that considered a stein? If so, odd, since BYU is the #1 stone cold sober school every year. But still, isn't it awesome? My brother-in-law noticed it for the first time a few weeks ago and was eyeing it... I think I need to start hiding it when he comes around.
4. the find that prompted this post: a giraffe trick-or-treat basket!! I wish I had found this last fall, since Tempe was a giraffe for Halloween last year.
5. that little devil was the first of many, many '70s statues we have collected. We have over 20 now. Every time I go I find more, but I've stopped buying them because we have so many and they are so useless...
Other favorite D.I. finds: a hose and hose spinner thing that keeps it looped up and makes it really easy to water the lawn; baskets, baskets, baskets (I buy them even if I don't need them); and a child size wooden table and chair set.
