When I was pregnant with Lena, I found out that I am a major name nerd. I spent hours scouring the internet (nymbler.com, the Babycenter girls' name board, the SSA top 1000 name list) for unique, spunky names to suggest to Jason (remember, he got full naming rights. NO FAIR) It didn't happen so much when I was pregnant with Tempe; mostly because we were convinced she was a boy, and we each had a top pick + one that we agreed on. Tempe Joann was actually the ONLY name we had considered for a girl, so she was pretty easy to name.
Anyway... I stumbled across my new favorite website: Appellation Mountain. It's a name blog! And not just any name blog. A spunky name blog. An underused name blog. A no-Jack-or-Madison-here name blog. It even has great reviews for Juniper, which was my personal top pick for Helena (Jason wasn't a fan; and to be honest, I don't like it as much anymore. But I still love June/Juno!)
Just for kicks, wanna hear some of my other picks for Helena? Pallas. Violet. Ochid. Persephone. Louisa. Annalise. Stella. Alice. Betty. Bellatrix. Margot. Harper.
As you can see, my taste varies. There are some classic names; some old-fashioned names; and yes, some names that are out there.
But Lena suits her.
Now if only I had something to name....

Are you pregnant? Tell me the truth?
I am NOT pregnant... just like looking at names :)
It seems we share similar views when it comes to names. My husband and I are SO picky about names and will be even more so when it comes to our children. I love Tempe and Helena, those are GREAT names!!
PS- I HATE the name Madison!!!!!!!
I love that you love naming:) I am getting a great thrill out of naming this littly tike, so I'll have to check out the new naming blog and see what we can do (maybe we'll go with Madison!)
I love Appellation Mountain! When you posted this I went to it and checked it out and it's so much fun. I'm a little afraid for any future children of mine. Let's hope for their sakes I don't get TOOOOO too crazy. I love names!
