This week in Play School we learned about Farms and Harvest.
Concepts: What animals live on the farm, what foods/products come from farms
Activity: We had so many fun activities this week! I had two Sandra Boynton CDs and we danced to all of the farm related songs--"Barnyard Dance", "Cows", "Be Like a Duck", and "Perfect Piggies". If you haven't checked out Sandra Boynton's books and music, you should. She is great! After we danced, we did a fun art project where the kids dipped plastic animals in paint and stamped them on construction paper to make animal footprints.
After our art project, we went outside and "milked" a rubber glove cow. I poked holes in the fingertips of a rubber glove, filled it with water, and let the kids take turns squeezing the water out of the glove.
Books: Baa Baa Black Sheep by Iza Trapani; Why Do Horses Neigh? by Joan Holub; The Little Book of Farmyard Tales by Stephen Cartwright and Heather Amery; Cluck O'Clock by Kes Gray; and Mrs. Wishy-Washy's Farm by Joy Cowley.
Songs: Selected tracks from Sandra Boynton's "Rhinoceros Tap" and "Philadelphia Chickens"; "Old McDonald Had A Farm"
Snack: Our snack turned into a full lunch. We had mini pigs in a blanket with Lil Smokies and corn on the cob. The kids had so much fun shucking corn with my mom, who is visiting from Tennessee. She even taught them a song and dance about shucking corn!
Field Trip: We are lucky enough to live in an area that has several little "farms" in the area, so we walked to two of them this week and saw turkeys, pheasants, horses, geese, ducks, goats, and sheep.

I love that rubber glove idea! So creative. I wonder if my kids are too old for that, but I think I'd love to try it :)
I love all of this! I want to do something like that with my little ones especially the glove thing!
