{ the world is her oyster }

She's here!!!

Introducing Pearl Diana, born tonight at 8:02 pm after a whirlwind labor! She weighs in at 6 lb, 11 oz, 19 1/2 inches, which makes her our biggest baby!
I went to the doctor this morning (was it really just this morning??) and was nearly 6 cm. She stripped my membranes and joked that she would see me later tonight. I tried not to get my hopes up, but decided to walk to the school to volunteer this afternoon. By the time I got home at 2, I was having some slightly uncomfortable, very sporadic contractions from walking, but they went away for a while after I sat down. By 3, they were coming more strongly but still sporadic. By 5:30 when Jason got home, I was fairly certain that I was in labor, but the contractions were still easy to talk through so I wasn't sure. But it really picked up after that! I took a hot bath while Jason started to gather our things and get the girls ready to go to his parents house (who, incidentally, weren't there--his two teenage sisters ended up watching our 3 girls plus Jason's brother's 4 girls!) By the time I was done with the bath, contractions were about 3 minutes apart and very painful. We got to the hospital and into a room at 7:01 (I barely made it from the lobby to L&D) and I was 7 cm and 100% effaced. I bounced on a ball for about half an hour and then I was starting to feel some pressure, so I got back into the bed and my midwife broke my water. It wasn't long before it was time to push. Wow, am I glad that is over! It really hurts to push a baby out. I forgot about that. I only pushed for a few minutes and Pearl was born just an hour after we arrived :)
Now I am trying to wind myself down so I can go to sleep but you know how hard it is after you have a baby to settle down! Here's hoping I can fall asleep at some point.

OH Claire, definitely not all of them natural! I didn't have an epidural with Helena (asked for one but ran out of time) and I was really planning and preparing on a natural childbirth with Pearl, so I'm glad it was nice and quick :) Makes it easy when you only have to be in pain for a few hours!
