june

I want to be her. Seriously. And I'm not one of those girls that is just saying she wants to be her, but really doesn't, because I really do want to be her.

Look, I'm not a slave to my husband. He doesn't expect me to clean the whole house without ever asking him to do chores (he does the bathtub and takes out the trash and sweeps the kitchen) or have a cold drink waiting for him when he gets home from work or curl my hair every day. If I don't do those things, he won't lose interest.
(That's just an excuse men have given themselves for their own weaknesses. My husband is better than that.)
I don't know where my sudden urge to be June Cleaver came from, but here it is. Homemaking is a lost art and I want to learn it.
(maybe I should be scrubbing the floor instead of blogging)
So here are some things I want to do:
  • Make bread
  • Line dry my laundry
  • Cloth diaper my next baby (yes, I am serious)
  • Cook and bake from scratch
  • Grow a vegetable garden
  • Make my own laundry detergent
  • Cut down on store-bought, chemical filled cleaners and use baking soda and vinegar like my grandmother used to

(Isn't it interesting how all those things are good for the environment?)

I love the art of housewifing and totally respect that! We use to line dry our clothes when I was a kid and only clean with vinegar products. I make my own cleaning solutions that are eco-friendly as well (and way cheaper).

Yay for June!

I think of it all the time too, but usually fall back on what's convenient. Chocolate on my Cranium had a very informative post on cloth diapering the other day. here's the link if you're interested http://chocolateonmycranium.blogspot.com/2010/03/cloth-diapering.html

somewhere in her archives she also has recipes for homemade laundry detergent and she also has some cool shampoo (or no shampoo in this case) techniques.

Sounds awesome! My sister did a cloth diaper post about the ones they used (when the baby was still really young). Might be good info for you - http://fairbabies.blogspot.com/2009/08/diapers.html.

Impressive, good luck with the cloth diapering though, I really hated doing that. Everything else sounds fun to me.

I felt the same way about a year ago and did all these things (minus the diapers. I have no diaper wearing babies right now!) It made my life feel different and I loved it. My state of mind in better and I feel like I'm on target with God's plan for this point in my life. The only thing that fell short, the laundry detergent. I went back to purchasing it about a month ago. I still buy green, but my homemade stuff didn't cut it with kids in the house. But the home cleaners do! Go for it. YOu'll never regret it.
