Ok, so today wasn't all bad--I actually did accomplish a lot. Remember when I discovered that I had an area where I can plant vegetables after all? Well, today I finally finished all the prep work and got my seeds in the ground! I am kicking myself for not taking a before picture--I know, I know, what kind of a blogger am I? I should take a before picture before I do anything. But let me describe what it looked like: along the side of the house, about 3 ft x 7 ft, there were very dense waist-high weeds tangled into rose bushes. I tried to transplant the roses (but I think they died), dug out all the weeds and an old stump, picked out all the tiny blades of grass and rocks, lined the edge with random large rocks we had all over the yard, raked the dirt even, and--voila!! Vegetable seed ready! I planted zucchini and sugar snap peas in the ground, and bought a cherry-tomato plant that I put in a pot to save space. Honestly, I don't have much faith in seeds, but I do hope they will grow. It would be nice to have fresh vegetables in our own yard!
The other thing that made today great was our ward swap. If you have never been to one, let me tell you, it was awesome. Basically, my ward just hosted a free garage sale. Everyone brought things they didn't want/need anymore, sorted them onto tables, and then we went crazy taking whatever we did want (and everything left after 2 hours went into the DI truck). I got so much great stuff.
- About 5 books for Tempe and Helena in really good condition (and a few in not so good condition), including "You Are Special", a Margaret Wise Brown book, and a few Christmas books
- A magnetic facial expressions toy for the church bag--sort of like a blend of Mr. Potato Head and Wooly Willy
- Three graphic tees which I already turned into cute pillows for the playroom (and they're ok, even if they're lumpy and misshapen)
- A red and white striped (Where's Waldo) shirt that I am planning on turning into a Christmas stocking
- A Christmas cookie tray
- A pair of sunglasses for Tempe
- A rainbow bead necklace for the dress up box
- A super cute pink and white puffy hairbow
- 4 shirts and a vest for yours truly
- A sweater and jeans for Tempe
- And best of all--two dresses for me, one of which is the most fabulous dress I have ever owned! It is perfect for our family picture we will be doing this fall.
SCORE!
