I hate health insurance. Hate it. It's horrible. I pay so much each month and what do I get back? Nothing. My insurance doesn't cover anything at all until I meet my outrageous deductible. That's why when I had the swine flu for three weeks I didn't go to the doctor. It requires a maternity deductible that has to be paid separate from the regular deductible--and that just went up $1,500 to a grand total of $6,500. I might as well just not have health insurance and pay for our next baby myself. At least then the doctor and hospital would give me a discount. The only thing holding me back from that is the fear that something will go wrong.
I am going to get supplemental insurance when we have another baby, but still. Just the fact that my insurance coverage is so poor is very frustrating.

I was in the very same spot for a long time until I got BCBS. My husband's company doesn't carry insurance so I have to have private (which is a joke) and he doesn't have any because of past medical conditions that make him "ineligible."
It's a lovely world we live in, eh? With that kind of deductible, I'd honestly rather go without insurance. Then again, you have two children to think about :-( I'm so sorry!!
PS- Did you *really* have swine flu?????
I am actually in the process of switching to BCBS, but it doesn't seem that much better than what I have now. But a little better.
And I don't know if I had swine flu. I had all the symptoms and I felt horrible for a very long time, so I'm just assuming that I did.
BCBS is the best individual insurance you can get and my dad sells health insurance and says this too (he doesn't sell BCBS). My premium is about 170 a month but my deductible is really low and I have a prescription card. You can also add maternity insurance on (which is a plus) but it has to be at a certain time each year and you have to really plan your pregnancy out in order to get coverage. Health insurance is a brutal world.
I hope switching to BCBS helps you out!!! :-)
We are currently with BCBS and have had terrible experience with our rep here in particular. I was 22 weeks pregnant and after paying over $520 a month for 2 years for Cory and I, found out they did not cover maternity. We were royally screwed to say the least. Considering that was the main reason we purchased insurance in the first place! We now can not seem to find maternity coverage at all, anywhere... what is with that?!! I am not sure about adding at a certain time each year.. might have to ask the hubs what BCBS told him and chase that. I believe he was told that the only way to get maternity coverage is through an employer...
I know exactly how you feel. They're scamming us all. And you'd think BYU's health insurance would be more amicable...
Agreed! For awhile there, dealing with them was my literal full time job! I honestly think they are so crooked and unethical, to say the least. Travis gets screwed constantly. How dare you actually use the insurance! Looking forward to the baby's hospital bill...lol. Good luck.....!
