Maybe you could white wash over it and tone down the color if it is too bright or dark. I check at the Oops paint at Lowe's and you might be able to scrub another color over it to make it look softer, or deeper depending on what you are looking for. I am sure you will make it look great. I painted my kitchen cabinets a tropical green... sounded so good. It will work nicely when I paint antique black over it and sand off little parts. So what I originally thought was a giant oops is now going to work to my advantage!! :)
