Play School: Transportation

This week our Joy School topic was transportation--a fun one for a three-year-old boy and a girl obsessed with Cars!
We started the week off with a field trip on the bus to the post office. Tempe and Helena loved standing by the bus stop and waiting for the right bus to come along, paying the driver and taking our transfer slip, and pulling the cord when it was our turn to get off.

M taught this week and she had the kids make really cute cars out of cardboard boxes. Then they went out on her driveway where she had a chalk "road", complete with street signs, and practiced driving. They also played Red Light, Green Light. Today I helped Tempe and Helena make drivers' licences to go along with the cardboard car.

We wrapped up the week by having a Cars/pizza movie party as a family. So fun!

Concepts: What kinds of transportation is out there, why we have signs and rules of the road, and what some of them mean.

Game: Cardboard cars; Red Light, Green Light
Books: Fast Food by Joost Elffers and Saxton Freymann; Cars (from the movie); Thomas the Tank Engine by Rev. W. Awdry; That's Not My Plane by Fiona Watt and Rachel Wells; The Noisy Airplane Ride by Mike Downs and David Gordon; and ...And the Train Goes by William Bee
Songs: The Wheels on the Bus, Down by the Station
Get to know you question: What kinds of transportation have you been on? Tempe has been on planes, trains, and automobiles :) --and boats, "bumpy rides" (ATVs), buses, and bike trailers
