dreams do come true in New Orleans...

Today is Fat Tuesday--the last day of Mardi Gras. Jason and I went to New Orleans on our honeymoon 6 years ago. We had a fabulous week exploring the French Quarter on foot and the Garden District by streetcar, touring the cemetaries, eating fried alligator, beignets, and rabbit, going on a swamp cruise and feeding alligators, taking a riverboat cruise on the Mississippi, and hanging out in Jackson Square. New Orleans is like no where else in America (which is why we chose to go there). I would love to go back someday--maybe for our 10 year anniversary!
So to celebrate Fat Tuesday, we had family movie night--we watched "The Princess and the Frog" and ate chicken and shrimp gumbo and beignets. The gumbo was too spicy for the girls, but they enjoyed the beignets and watching the movie while they ate.
And can I just say how much I love "The Princess and the Frog"? I really think that it's one of my top Disney movies. I love the music and I love the message that working hard is the way to achieve your dreams!

Ooh, we went to New Orleans for our eighth anniversary. So much fun to see that photo. It is such a fabulous city! We want to take the kids, too - maybe in another year.

Did you have any trouble with the beignets?? I think they'd be less work than doughnuts, but I've heard it's hard to cook them through without burning the outside. Any tips?

i like the strong work ethnic too, but I love Mama Odie and her song : it don't matter what ya look like, don't matter what you wear,
how many rings you got on your finger,
money ain't got no soul, money ain't no heart,

oh i could sing that all day long... :) thanks.
